'Hezbollah open to full cooperation with Lebanese authorities,' Qassem says

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem stated on Saturday that the cease-fire between Lebanon and Israel, which came into effect at midnight on Thursday, would not have been possible “without the struggle of the resistance fighters” in his militia in southern Lebanon, while assuring that his fighters “will remain on the ground.”

“A cease-fire means the complete cessation of all hostilities. Because we do not trust this enemy, the resistance fighters will remain on the ground, ready to fire, and will respond appropriately to any violation. There cannot be a cease-fire imposed solely on the resistance [Hezbollah]; it must be mutual. We will not accept patiently enduring Israeli aggression for 15 months while waiting for sterile diplomacy,” added Qassem.

“The enemy was unable to reach the Litani River, neither during the first week as planned, nor during the 45 days” of the war, he asserted.

Trump says cease-fire with Iran “may not be renewed”

U.S. President Donald Trump said the cease-fire with Iran “may not be renewed if an agreement is not reached by Wednesday.”

Trump was speaking Saturday to reporters during a briefing aboard Air Force One. His remarks were reported by several media outlets, including CNN, which noted that the U.S. president had earlier expressed confidence that both sides were close to reaching an agreement, even as Iranian officials confirmed that new talks are expected to take place in Pakistan on Monday.

With these latest comments, Trump again raised the possibility of renewed strikes against Iran after the two-week truce expires later this week. He also warned that the United States would take control of Iranian nuclear materials “in a much less cooperative way” if no agreement is reached on the peaceful transfer of Iran’s enriched uranium out of the country.

Aoun “ready to go anywhere necessary” to secure Israeli withdrawal

In an address to the nation last evening, his first since the cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel took effect a day earlier, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said he was ready to “go anywhere necessary” to secure an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, referring to the next phase of negotiations with Israel.

Regarding the talks, which began Tuesday in Washington, Aoun, responding to criticism from pro-Hezbollah circles, said they are “neither a sign of weakness, nor a retreat, nor a concession.”

Without naming Hezbollah, Aoun also criticized the group, whose military activity has been outlawed since the start of the conflict on March 2, denouncing “adventurers who play with the fate of the state.”

“One state, one constitution, one law, one army,” he said.

Iran threatens to close Strait of Hormuz if U.S. maintains blockade of Iranian ports

Iran threatened to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz if the United States maintains its blockade of Iranian ports, after announcing a day earlier its full reopening to commercial vessels.

The resumption of traffic in the strait was welcomed by markets, and in Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump told AFP a peace agreement was “very close,” asserting that Iran had agreed to hand over its enriched uranium, a key point in negotiations.

“We’re going to go get it, we’re going to bring it to the United States soon,” the Republican said at a Turning Point USA gathering in Phoenix, Arizona.

But Tehran denied agreeing to transfer its highly enriched uranium stockpile and warned that the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas typically passes, could again be closed.

“If the blockade continues, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open,” said Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, on X.

He added that ships crossing the strait would in any case need “Iran’s authorization.”

  • This morning, artillery shelling struck the outskirts of Kounine, a village just north of Bint Jbeil, where Israeli forces have fought intense battles with Hezbollah in recent days.

Powerful explosions were heard across the regions of Sour, Nabatieh, Hasbaya, Iqlim al-Kharroub, Jezzine and Saida. Witnesses told our correspondent that “the ground was shaking, like during an earthquake.”

The blasts were clearly audible as far as the Chouf. According to witnesses, “it appears an unprecedented destructive force is being directed at residential neighborhoods” in these villages, which have been captured by Israel in recent weeks.
