SOUTH LEBANON — Hezbollah fighters fired about 30 rockets at Israel from Lebanon at about 6.40 am Wednesday morning, an Israeli army spokesperson told AFP, while the party claimed responsibility for attacks on about a dozen sites across the border.
The rocket fire comes a day after direct talks in Washington between Israel and Lebanon, the first in more than 30 years, which Hezbollah condemned. Following these discussions, Israel and Lebanon agreed to begin direct negotiations toward a "lasting peace," according to the U.S. State Department, which hosted and mediated the meeting.
Hezbollah claimed attacks on 11 villages in northern Israel between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. It said it targeted Metula, Kfar Giladi, Kiryat Shmona, Dovev, Shlomi, Metzova, Yaara, Avdon, Kfar Vradim, Nahariya, and Shavei Zion, following a night without attacks toward Israeli territory. The attacks lightly injured a man in Tamra, about 25 kilometers from the border, according to paramedics cited by Haaretz.
