The Iranian delegation, which is set to hold negotiations with the American side in Islamabad on Saturday to end the war in the Middle East, has begun a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, whose country is acting as a mediator, according to Iranian state television.

The terms of the Iran-U.S. talks, whose agenda and format are not immediately known, will be determined following this meeting, the network said.

Iran will decide after the meeting whether it wants to begin negotiations on Saturday, according to the Iranian Fars news agency, which said that "new messages" were exchanged between Iran and the United States on Friday night.

Iran says it has set two preconditions for the talks: "a cease-fire in Lebanon," where Israel is conducting a deadly campaign against Hezbollah, which is backed by Tehran, and "the unfreezing of Iran's assets."
