Iranian authorities executed two men Saturday convicted of belonging to a banned opposition group and carrying out destabilizing acts aimed at overthrowing the government, the judiciary said.

The executions are the latest targeting members of the People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran, or MEK, after four others were hanged earlier this week.

“Abolhassan Montazer and Vahid Baniamerian were hanged after trial, and the Supreme Court upheld their sentences,” the judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported.

They were convicted of attempting “rebellion involving multiple terrorist acts,” membership in the MEK and acts of sabotage aimed at overthrowing the Islamic Republic, the report said, without specifying when they were arrested.

The MEK, which supported the 1979 Islamic Revolution before breaking with Iranian leaders in the 1980s, is designated a “terrorist” group by Tehran.

Iran ranks second worldwide in executions after China, according to human rights groups including Amnesty International.

Since the start of the war in the Middle East, triggered by U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, several individuals have been executed.

On Thursday, a man convicted of carrying out acts on behalf of Israel and the United States during protests that shook the country in December and January was hanged.
