BEIRUT — The United States Embassy in Beirut stated Friday that Iranand its aligned terrorist militias, "may intend to target universities in Lebanon. Iran has specifically threatened American universities across the Middle East. If you are in the country, the Department of State urges U.S. citizens to depart Lebanon while commercial flight options remain available," the embassy wrote in a statement published on its official website.
Following Iranian threats against American universities in the region, controversy has emerged in Lebanon’s political and media circles in recent days after commentators close to Hezbollah echoed these claims, naming the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Lebanese American University (LAU) as potential targets. This comes amid tensions surrounding last week’s expulsion order issued by the Lebanese government against Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon.
