At least three people were killed and six injured — four of them critically — in an explosion at a commercial warehouse on the outskirts of Abboudieh in Akkar, near the Syrian border, on Wednesday, our local correspondent reported.
Rescue teams from the Lebanese Red Cross and Civil Defense rushed to the scene, while the Internal Security Forces (ISF) opened an investigation into the cause of the blast.
Preliminary findings suggest the explosion may have been triggered by a gas cylinder, according to the correspondent, noting the presence of flammable materials and alcoholic beverages in the warehouse.
Authorities said the cause remains under investigation.
Two horses were also killed in the explosion.
The incident follows a series of deadly blasts in Akkar in recent years. In 2021, an explosion at a gasoline storage tank in Tleil killed more than 30 people and wounded over 100. The village of Douseh, also in Akkar, lost four residents in that blast.
In March 2025, a tanker truck carrying gas for domestic use exploded on the outskirts of Dousseh, killing at least four people — a mother and her three children, all Syrian nationals — according to the Red Cross.
