BEIRUT — Hezbollah on Thursday again “categorically” denied accusations by Kuwait’s Interior Ministry, which said a day earlier it had thwarted a “terrorist plot” by a cell linked to the party.
In a statement, Hezbollah expressed its “categorical and absolute denial of all the statements issued by the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry regarding unfounded allegations and accusations about the existence of cells, networks, or supposed plots” tied to it in Kuwait, and reaffirmed its “commitment to the security and stability of the State of Kuwait.”
Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said in a statement posted on X that the State Security Agency had foiled a “terrorist plot” targeting “vital facilities in the country,” allegedly prepared by a group affiliated with Hezbollah.
“Ten citizens belonging to a terrorist group affiliated with the terrorist organization Hezbollah have been arrested,” it added.
The announcement comes amid a widening regional war triggered by Israeli and U.S. strikes on military and oil infrastructure. Iran has responded by targeting U.S. bases and civilian infrastructure in Gulf Arab states. The war has also spread to Lebanon, where Israeli attacks in response to Hezbollah attacks on March 2 have intensified and killed over 1,000 people.
Earlier this week, Kuwait said it had arrested 16 people — 14 Kuwaitis and two Lebanese nationals — whom it accused of links to Hezbollah and of planning “sabotage” operations. The party had already denied those accusations.
