BEIRUT — Royal Jordanian said it has postponed the resumption of its regular flights between Amman and Beirut to March 21, in a second notice sent within two days to Lebanese airlines and travel agencies.

The flights had initially been scheduled to resume on Thursday. Beirut's international airport website shows that all flights scheduled before Saturday have been canceled.

Since an Israeli offensive resumed in Lebanon on March 2, the Jordanian airline had not announced a long-term suspension but instead canceled flights on a day-to-day basis.

The latest delay is not unexpected, said Jean Abhboud, head of the Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies in Lebanon, citing a highly uncertain market where flights can be canceled at short notice due to the security situation.

If the decision stands, Royal Jordanian would become the first foreign airline to formally announce the resumption of flights to Beirut since the start of the war. Currently, only Lebanon's Middle East Airlines is operating regular flights. Jordanian airspace, which was partially closed in late February during the early days of the Israel-U.S. war in Iran, has largely reopened over the past two weeks.
