The Disasters and Risk Management Unit, under the presidency of the Cabinet, announced Monday evening that the number of internally displaced persons in Lebanon has surpassed one million.
"The number of displaced people registered with the authorities has reached 1,049,328. The number of displaced people in reception centers is 132,742," the statement said. According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health published Monday, the war has also resulted in 886 deaths and 2,141 injuries since the beginning of the conflict on March 2.
Hezbollah opened a front against Israel the day after the U.S.-Israeli offensive against Iran began on Feb. 28, during which the supreme leader of the Iranian revolution, Ali Khamenei, was assassinated. Since then, following more than 13 months of cease-fire, bombings have been relentless in southern Lebanon and Beirut's southern suburbs. Vast areas have been evacuated, leaving residents internally displaced for the second time in two years.
