German government is evacuating its staff from Iraq

The German government has announced the evacuation of its staff from Erbil, in northern Iraq, amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East, after already recalling its staff from Baghdad, the capital, and Tehran, AFP reports.

"In light of the risk assessment on the ground, Foreign Minister Wadephul has decided to take additional measures to protect our staff in Iraq," a Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated.

"The staff of the consulate general in Erbil has thus been temporarily transferred out of Iraq," the same source indicated.

A Ministry spokesperson confirmed during a regular press briefing that the staff of its second diplomatic mission in Iraq, in Baghdad, as well as the one in Tehran, Iran, had already been evacuated.

A convoy from the organization L'Œuvre d'Orient, which works with Christians in the Middle East, is currently on its way to the village of Qlaya in southern Lebanon, where the parish priest was killed by Israeli artillery fire on Monday.

Our journalist Tea Ziade is accompanying this initiative, which involves the Apostolic Nuncio, Monsignor Paolo Borgia, the Maronite Patriarchate and the president of Caritas Lebanon, Father Samir Ghaoui.

When interviewed by L'Orient Today, Vincent Gelot, representative for Œuvre d'Orient in Syria and Lebanon, said that the organization "immediately wanted to organize the dispatch of a convoy of humanitarian supplies" to the south, including food for two or three weeks and hygiene supplies, as soon as the offensive began on Monday.

The project was developed in coordination with the parish priest of Qlaya, Pierre al-Rai, before he was killed in Israeli fire.

"We understood that people were going to be isolated, and the idea was to send food because the inhabitants had chosen not to leave their villages," added Gelot, who recalled that a similar initiative had already been carried out in 2024.

The Israeli strike at dawn on the Aisha Bakkar neighborhood in central Beirut reportedly killed four people, according to a first responder and the Internal Security Forces (ISF) interviewed by our reporter on the ground, Lyana Alameddine. Four missiles were reportedly fired at the seventh floor of a 15-storey residential building. According to the mukhtar, each floor of the building has three flats. As Israeli troops continue their advances into southern Lebanon, where it has deployed several divisions and wants to establish a "buffer zone" along its border, Hezbollah claimed responsibility overnight for several attacks and strikes against Israeli soldiers on Lebanese territory, particularly around Aitaroun (Bint Jbeil), Khiam, and Markaba (Marjayoun).

Hezbollah said it had "spotted" an Israeli force advancing towards the area known as Khanouq, in Aitaroun, at 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday, and had "targeted it with rocket fire."

It also claimed responsibility for simultaneous attacks in Markaba the previous day at around 4 p.m.: the first targeted vehicles and soldiers on Israeli territory at the al-Marj site, just opposite Markaba, with rockets, while the second targeted "a gathering of soldiers" at a recently occupied position in Markaba with artillery fire. And at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Hezbollah fighters fired a volley of rockets at Israeli soldiers south of Khiam.

Finally, the party claimed responsibility for a rocket attack at 2:20 a.m. on the Israeli position at al-Manara, opposite Houla (Marjayoun).

Israeli strikes on the Bekaa Valley

In the Bekaa Valley, Israel targeted a building on the outskirts of the town of Ali al-Nahri this morning, first with a drone strike, then with an air strike, according to our correspondent in the region.

A loud explosion was heard throughout the region. A preliminary assessment indicates two people were injured, one of whom is in critical condition.

In addition, Israeli army aircraft carried out one strike on the Harbata area, north of Baalbeck, and two on the town of Shaat, in northern Bekaa.

Israeli airstrikes kill municipal officials, medics, and Lebanese Army soldier

A Red Cross first-aider, Youssef Assaf, originally from Sour, has succumbed to injuries sustained during an Israeli strike on Majdal Zoun (Sour), reports our correspondent in southern Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Israel killed the chief of the Jwayya municipality council and another of its members in an airstrike on the village in the southern district of Sour.

The Islamic Health Committee, a Hezbollah-affiliated medical association, said Israel has so far killed 15 of its members and injured 40 others.

An Israeli attack on Braasheet (Bint Jbeil) killed a Lebanese Army soldier.

During the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, Israeli strikes targeted the towns of Ghandourieh (Bint Jbeil), Touline, Khiam (Marjayoun), Jibsheet (Nabatieh), and Qalawieh (West Bekaa). At dawn this morning, an Israeli drone targeted a car in Bint Jbeil.

Israel issues new evacuation order for southern suburbs: Haret Hreik and Burj al-Barajneh

This morning, Israel issued a new evacuation order for the southern suburbs of Beirut, specifically for the neighborhoods of Haret Hreik and Burj al-Barajneh, in a statement released by its Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee.

Last Thursday, Israel issued a mass displacement order for the entire southern suburbs of the capital, home to 700,000 inhabitants. This is an evacuation zone of unprecedented scale in the context of previous wars between Hezbollah and Israel.

Israeli strike at dawn on Aisha Bakkar, in central Beirut

Israel launched a strike at around 5 a.m. Wednesday on an apartment in Aisha Bakkar, in central Beirut, according to witnesses and the state-run National News Agency. While the Health Ministry has not yet confirmed the new death toll, local witnesses report that four people were killed in the strike.

This is the second time Israel has struck central Beirut since March 1, when Hezbollah joined the Israel-U.S. war on Iran and Israel launched its war on Lebanon.

Israeli Channel 12 reported Wednesday morning that the strike targeted an office belonging to al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, the Lebanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, which denied any attacks on its offices or members.
