The organization Reporters Without Borders on Tuesday denounced an attack that injured a Lebanese journalist while he was reporting on Monday in the southern suburb of Beirut, which is hit daily by Israeli airstrikes.
Haitham Moussawi is a photojournalist working for the daily newspaper al-Akhbar, which is close to Hezbollah. He was injured in a strike that destroyed a building in the southern suburb, according to RSF. The journalist sustained leg injuries and was hospitalized. He was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday and is now recovering, although further medical exams are still required.
"Journalists must be protected," RSF wrote in its statement.
This new war between Israel and Hezbollah has been ongoing since the night of March 1 to 2. It has already resulted in nearly 500 deaths. During the previous conflict in 2024, several journalists were killed by Israeli gunfire or shelling while on assignment and wearing identifying insignia.
