Emirates, the Middle East’s largest airline, announced Saturday it was suspending all flights to and from Dubai until further notice after an interception operation took place over Dubai International Airport and the United Arab Emirates said it was facing an attack originating from Iran.

“Please do not go to the airport,” the airline said in a statement on X. Flight-tracking website Flightradar24 showed aircraft circling above the airport, apparently holding in the air.

Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international passenger traffic, later announced it was temporarily suspending all operations.

“For the safety of passengers, airport staff and airline crews, operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) have been temporarily suspended,” the Dubai Media Office said on X.

Earlier Saturday, Dubai’s government said there had been “a minor incident resulting from debris falling after an interception” while denying reports circulating on social media about incidents at the airport.

Limited flights had resumed Monday from the airport despite daily drone attacks targeting sites in the United Arab Emirates.
