Diplomatic efforts, particularly those led by France, have so far failed to produce any results in ending Israel’s war against Lebanon. Israel insists on continuing the fighting until it achieves its objectives, bolstered by explicit American support. The United States holds the Lebanese state responsible for developments, arguing that it has failed to meet its obligations by not preventing Hezbollah from fighting, not disarming it, and not asserting sole authority over decisions of war and peace.
