“Our position in Yemen … is full solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Abdul Malik al-Houthi on Feb. 28, the day the U.S.-Israeli offensive against Tehran began.To express this solidarity with his Iranian patron, the leader of the Yemeni Houthis proposed “public activities, mass demonstrations,” as well as a “robust engagement” across social media – far short of Iran’s threat to mobilize its regional proxies in the event of a military assault. Indeed, Hezbollah fired its first rockets at Israel on the night of Sunday, March 1 into Monday, and the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has already targeted U.S. bases at Baghdad and Erbil airports. Yet the Yemeni group has not yet entered the fray, unlike its swift actions at the start of the Gaza war – attacking ships in the Red Sea and launching missiles at Israel – or during the war...
