The union of gas distributors said in a statement relayed by the state-run National News Agency that stocks in Lebanon were sufficient for one month and that three ships carrying gas were expected to arrive this week, amid escalating Israeli military activity.
It acknowledged that demand was "exceptionally high, particularly due to the intense cold wave affecting the mountainous and coastal areas, and because many families have relocated to these regions during the winter," prompting many households to refill gas canisters at home.
The union also called on "all import companies and gas filling plants to increase daily deliveries beyond the usual winter levels, to extend working hours and to temporarily and exceptionally step up production and distribution, in order to avoid any pressure on the market or artificial shortages in certain areas."
It also urged "the competent authorities" to monitor the market to crack down on abuses and fraud.
