According to L'Orient Today's information, Israel pushed for limiting the committee to only military representatives as a way to pressure Lebanon into proceeding with direct negotiations.

BEIRUT — Although the international community welcomed Lebanon’s appointment of former Ambassador to the United States Simon Karam to the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire monitoring mechanism in December, civilian representatives have not attended meetings for weeks, with no indication of resuming soon.Composed of the U.S., France, UNIFIL, Israel and Lebanon, the mechanism is responsible for supervising the November 2024 cease-fire agreement.
