“Every morning, my father woke up at the crack of dawn and worked long hours so I could go to the Lebanese University. That was our life for four years straight,” says Dana, a Palestinian nursing graduate since 2023 from Shatila refugee camp, originally from the city of Yaffa, now a part of Tel Aviv in Israel.Her father, a plumber, insisted she pursue higher education “and make something of herself,” determined that his daughter would have a better life than the one he built in the worn-down camp in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
