BEIRUT — Al-Qard al-Hassan, the financial arm of Hezbollah, has announced the resumption of housing aid payments starting Feb. 9, but only for a limited period of three months, according to a statement released by the association on Friday.

"Only new promissory notes allocated to new housing will be paid," the statement specified — meaning the aid will apply only to new rental periods in 2026, with no retroactive effect for the past year. Rental assistance had been granted to families whose homes were damaged or destroyed during the war, allowing them to find temporary housing until they could return.

Following the cease-fire in November 2024, displaced persons received assistance covering the first year of displacement, though they had not been officially informed of a possible renewal for a second year — until now. No details, however, were provided regarding any extension beyond these three months this year, unlike in 2025, when support was granted for a full year.

Payments related to all other debt acknowledgements connected to compensation — particularly those for renovation work, furniture, and previous housing aid — "will remain suspended until further notice, pending a new decision by the competent authorities," the statement added.

The association had frozen the disbursement of checks intended for people affected by the war between Israel and Hezbollah in June 2025.

In the wake of the deadly yearlong war between Israel and Hezbollah, the party, through its institution, launched a large-scale compensation campaign for those affected by the conflict. This aid aimed to repair damaged homes and businesses, partially compensate for losses, and provide a minimum level of social support, particularly through housing assistance.

Beyond the heavy destruction caused by the war, the power of Hezbollah's financial branch has weakened since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, which severed the direct supply line between Iran and Hezbollah.

The microfinance institution, which operates on the Islamic principle of interest-free loans, has been under U.S. sanctions since 2007, when it was identified as providing financial support to Hezbollah.
