The chief of staff of the Jordanian army, Youssef Huneiti, told Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Thursday that Amman would continue to support the Lebanese Army which is currently tasked with disarming militias and armed groups across the country and is being deployed to South Lebanon.
This support has taken tangible form, notably through a donation of food rations received by the military institution in the morning.
Aoun, who led the army for years before being elected president, welcomed the chief of staff of the Jordanian army, Youssef Huneiti, at the presidential palace in Baabda. Huneiti confirmed that Jordan would "continue its support to the Lebanese Army with equipment and training."
This aid aims to enable the troops "to carry out the missions assigned to them." The army command is due to present Friday, Jan. 30, the second phase of its plan to regain the monopoly on arms, which is expected to include the disarmament of Hezbollah between the Litani and Awali rivers.
Since September 2025, the troops have managed, without opposition from Hezbollah, to dismantle its arsenal in the area south of the Litani, bordering Israel. The main party concerned, however, continues to refuse to give up its weapons in the rest of the territory as long as Israel continues its daily attacks, despite the cease-fire reached at the end of November 2024.
As part of this Jordanian aid to the army, the latter received Thursday in Kfar Shima a shipment of food aid from Jordan by land, via the Masnaa border crossing with Syria.
The army has been severely affected by the ongoing multifaceted crisis since 2019.
Soldiers' salaries were drastically cut with the depreciation of the Lebanese Lira, and for years, the institution has relied on assistance and donations from various countries to pay its personnel, feed them, equip them, and provide training.
