Two young men trapped by snow in the heights of Akkar, in northern Lebanon, were rescued at dawn on Saturday by the Mountain Intervention Center of the Ministry of Public Works after being caught off guard by heavy snowfall while traveling in their vehicle in the Jurd al-Kaytaa area, on the road to the Qammouaa plateau.
The head of the intervention center, Khaled Dib, told our North Lebanon correspondent Michel Hallak that distress calls from the two men were received by the army and Civil Defense. A bulldozer from the Ministry of Public Works was dispatched to the site, where the vehicle was stranded at an altitude of 1,600 meters.
The two men were rescued and taken to the nearby village of Fneidek, but their car could not be recovered due to the depth of the snow covering it.
