Two Syrian soldiers were killed on Saturday in an attack carried out by Kurdish forces as troops were deploying in an area east of Aleppo in northwestern Syria, the army said.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which were due to withdraw from the area on Saturday morning, “violated the agreement” and targeted an army patrol near the town of Maskana, “killing two soldiers,” according to an army statement.

For their part, the SDF accused the army of breaching the agreement by entering the towns of Deir Hafer and Maskana “before the full withdrawal” of Kurdish fighters, “creating a very dangerous situation,” and blamed the incidents in Maskana on “violations committed by the Syrian government.”
