The Syrian army announced on Saturday that it had completed a “full security operation” in one of two Aleppo neighborhoods where it has been fighting Kurdish fighters since Tuesday.

“We announce the end of a full security operation in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo,” the army said in a statement carried by the official Sana news agency, while warning residents to remain in their homes. However, AFP correspondents in Aleppo reported that shelling could still be heard after the announcement.
