BEIRUT — While receiving delegations who congratulated him for the New Year, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam voiced on Monday his optimism about the coming days, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA).
Salam expressed his hope that “the new year will bring goodness and reassurance to everyone,” affirming that the government will continue its "work in the interest of the nation."
The prime minister made these remarks before noon on Monday at the Grand Serail while receiving Cabinet employees, in the presence of the Cabinet's Secretary-General, Mahmoud Makkieh.
President Joseph Aoun had also given optimistic comments about the coming period, as he said around a week ago that the specter of an Israeli war on Lebanon "has receded."
Despite a cease-fire reached in November 2024, Israel has continued to strike Lebanon and still occupies several points in the South.
Israeli threats of an escalation against Hezbollah have increased recently, as the group continues to refuse to completely disarm, especially in light of the continuous Israeli violations.
