Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar said that the Interior Ministry is committed to holding Lebanon’s parliamentary elections on schedule in May 2026, in accordance with the law, in an interview with “Voice of All Lebanon,” the state-run National News Agency reported Wednesday.

"This is in line with what President Joseph Aoun confirmed from Bkirki on the sidelines of the Christmas Mass, when he announced that, in agreement with the prime minister and the parliament speaker, the parliamentary elections will be held on time, an approach to which the Interior Ministry is committed."

He stressed that “the Interior Ministry has no intention of submitting any proposal to postpone the elections, whether for technical or non-technical reasons.

"On the contrary, the Ministry is carrying out all the necessary procedures and preparations to complete the electoral process on schedule,” emphasizing “adherence to and respect for deadlines, leading up to the call for electoral bodies 90 days before the election date.”

The elections are expected to unfold against a backdrop of a weakened Hezbollah after the war and deep divisions over its weapons, further complicated by unresolved disputes over the current electoral law, including how expatriates cast their ballots, factors that many see as providing a ready excuse to delay an election ill-timed for several major political actors.
