BEIRUT — Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Alaa Moussa called on Lebanon to “implement international resolutions,” emphasizing, that this was not “a warning,” he said from Baabda Palace, several local medias reported Monday.

During a press conference he stressed that Egypt is "concerned about what is happening in Lebanon, especially the threats it faces in the South and in other areas. The Lebanese state has played an important role, as has the army in the South. We believe that the only solution to the current situation is the implementation of agreements, and this is what we are coordinating with our partners, foremost among them the United States. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdellaty is in constant contact with the Israeli side to urge it to reduce tensions.”

Egypt is doing "efforts to reduce tensions," Moussa insisted.

Abdelatty who was in Lebanon last month had expressed Egypt’s “full support for the Lebanese government’s decision to regain the monopoly of arms in the hands of state institutions” and called for “the immediate cessation of all Israeli violations” of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in November 2024.

Abdelatty also noted that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi has instructed authorities “to provide all forms of support and assistance and to leverage Egypt’s diplomatic network to help de-escalate tensions, implement the cease-fire agreement, and prevent any potential escalation.”

Despite the cease-fire agreement reached in November 2024 after more than 13 months of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, Israel continues to strike Lebanon almost daily, particularly in the south.

Furthermore, Moussa also congratulated the Lebanese government "on the successful adoption of the financial gap law," considering it "an important step to be followed by further measures."

On Friday, Cabinet approved the draft “financial gap” law, addressing the return of deposits, after reviewing pending provisions.

The bill, now set to be sent to Parliament, was adopted by majority vote. No changes were made to key measures, including the classification of deposits into four categories, starting with deposits under $100,000, or the four-year repayment period for these deposits.
