“Our voices rise together, strong and determined,” journalist and 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi told a crowd gathered in Mashhad on Dec. 12, just before being violently arrested along with about 40 other activists. The gathering in this city of northeastern Iran was organized in honor of Khosrow Alikordi, a lawyer who had defended several political prisoners, and was found dead in his office six days earlier in circumstances his relatives deemed suspicious.
