BEIRUT — President Joseph Aoun on Wednesday signed a decree convening Parliament for an extraordinary session running from Jan. 2 to March 1, 2026. The decree was also endorsed by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
According to the text, the session will focus on "the examination of the draft budget for the year 2026, bills sent to Parliament or that will be sent to it, as well as all other bills, proposals and texts that the Parliament bureau decides to submit to the MPs."
The move comes as Parliament prepares to debate legislation addressing Lebanon’s so-called "financial hole," currently under government review. Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has refused to place on the session agenda a proposed amendment to the electoral law that would allow expatriates to vote for all 128 parliamentary seats ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for spring 2026.
