Syrian authorities and Kurdish forces respectively ordered their troops Monday night to cease hostilities in Aleppo, in northern Syria, where deadly clashes had broken out earlier in the day, both sides reported.

"The Syrian Army general staff has ordered troops to cease responding to fire coming from the positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF]," according to the state-run SANA news agency.

The SDF in Aleppo also instructed their troops "not to respond to attacks from government factions, following contacts aimed at de-escalating" the situation.
