Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rassamny said in a statement that he has pressured public works contractors responsible for maintaining rainwater drainage networks to ensure they properly fulfill their obligations, as the country has experienced fairly regular rainfall since late November, during which several roadways — and even some public buildings — have been flooded.
The senior official specified that "no payments due to the contractors will be made before the Ministry verifies the completion of the requested work in accordance with the required conditions and technical specifications," adding that the quality of the work will be checked "either by the mandated engineering consultancy offices or by the various administrative departments."
"The Public Works and Transport Ministry fully affirms its commitment to applying the strictest standards for monitoring and supervising road network maintenance and rehabilitation work, in order to ensure the quality of the work carried out and the proper use of public funds," he stressed.
