Army says it will fire celebratory artillery rounds in Ouzai-Baabda upon Pope's arrival to Beirut airport

BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army announced that, for the occasion of the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Lebanon, it will fire a number of celebratory artillery rounds in the Ouzai – Baabda area upon the Pope's arrival at Beirut airport at 3:45 pm.

The army also added, in its statement that was published on Sunday morning, that a test celebratory round would be fired at 11:30 am.

A sound was indeed heard in Beirut's southern suburbs as a result of the test round fired before the Pope’s arrival.

The Pope is scheduled to head to the Baabda Presidential Palace directly after his arrival to Beirut, where he will meet President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
