Security Council members' Beirut visit: Monopoly of weapons, post-UNIFIL and cooperation with Damascus
Lebanon’s permanent representative to the U.N. told L’Orient-Le Jour that the Security Council's visit to Beirut “means that Lebanon is returning to the center stage at the U.N.”

U.N. Security Council members are expected in Lebanon on Dec. 5 and 6, following a one-day visit to Syria. The delegation will hold key meetings with Lebanese officials and U.N. agencies, and make a field visit to the headquarters of the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura.The visit aims to support Lebanon’s stability — particularly through the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 — and to assess progress on disarmament and border control.
