Since the cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel took effect on Nov. 27, 2024, more than 13 children have been killed and 146 others wounded in Lebanon, according to the Lebanese health ministry, as UNICEF, the United Nations children's agency, continues to call for immediate action while children face ongoing violence.

"Deadly attacks continue to threaten children in Lebanon. Across Lebanon, children are still exposed to violence and fear, even during the cease-fire. This is unacceptable. Every child has the right to grow up safely, to be protected and free from harm," said UNICEF’s representative in Lebanon, Marcoluigi Corsi, noting that these tragedies add to the toll published by the Lebanese health ministry.

"We urge all parties to abide by the cease-fire, to take immediate action to end and prevent violations against children, to uphold their rights, and to comply with international law. We also call on all actors with influence to use their power to strengthen child protection," the U.N. representative continued, stressing the need for safety and protection for Lebanon’s children.

"Children in Lebanon are still far from safe. They need protection, psychological support and an environment where their rights are guaranteed and not under threat," he concluded.

Some 340 people have been killed and nearly 1,000 wounded in Lebanon since the cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah — a Hamas-allied Palestinian Islamist movement — took effect, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

The spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Thameen Al-Kheetan, said Tuesday that the office had established at least 127 civilians had been killed in Israeli strikes since November 2024.
