SOUTH LEBANON — The Israeli army on Wednesday night accused Hezbollah of rebuilding its military capabilities in the Lebanese village of Beit Lif (Bint Jbeil district), just a few kilometers from Israel's northern border, denouncing what it called a "blatant violation" of the cease-fire agreement that took effect in November 2024.

Hezbollah "is working to rebuild its capabilities in the village of Beit Lif, in southern Lebanon, in blatant violation" of the terms of the truce brokered by the United States and France, said a military statement released after a series of Israeli strikes on what the army described as Hezbollah military facilities in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli army said it "identified dozens of terrorist infrastructure sites in the area of the village, including headquarters and weapons depots," adding that Hezbollah is hiding them "in civilian homes," and in some cases "near" a school, a hospital, or even a mosque.

Following the Israeli army's accusations, residents of Beit Lif made an urgent appeal to the Lebanese Army command and to the country's three heads of state, calling for immediate deployment of troops in the locality to protect civilians, our correspondent reported. "We, the residents of Beit Lif — women, men, children, and the elderly — have returned to our land and resumed our lives, gone back to school and work, get up before sunrise and chase after our daily bread. We will not allow our land to be taken from us on false pretenses. This is where we grew up, this is where we will stay, and this is where we will die," the statement issued by the residents said.
