BEIRUT — The Israeli army launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza on Wednesday evening, bringing the number of Palestinians killed in the enclave since morning to 22, according to Al Jazeera.
The television channel reported that nine people were killed when Israeli drones struck tents housing displaced people in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis. In addition, five people were killed in an airstrike on a building sheltering displaced residents in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City.
In a statement, the Israeli army said it had targeted Hamas positions across the Gaza Strip, noting that the strikes followed "militants firing toward the area where Israeli army forces were operating in Khan Younis" earlier on Wednesday.
The Israeli army also announced that it killed "several" Palestinians who "were crossing the yellow line and approaching its troops" in northern Gaza.
"Another cease-fire violation: Several [people] were identified crossing the yellow line and approaching Israeli army troops in northern Gaza, posing an immediate threat. Following identification, the Israeli army eliminated them to neutralize the threat", reads a statement released by the Israeli army on X. The Yellow line marks the Israeli-controlled territory within the besieged enclave.
More than a month after the cease-fire agreement took effect on Oct. 10, near-daily violations by the Israeli army have killed at least 279 Palestinians wounded 652 others, according to the latest estimates from Gaza's Health Ministry.
