BEIRUT — Just over two weeks ahead of the symbolic and highly anticipated visit of Pope Leo XVI to Beirut (Nov. 30-Dec. 2), a brand new website, "popeinlebanon.com," "The Pope in Lebanon," has been launched under the supervision of the Lebanese government and the presidential palace, in collaboration with the Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon (APEC).
The platform highlights the full program of the pontiff’s stay, including official events, a photo gallery, and articles written about the visit. While the site notes that free registration for this major event will be required through the "Ticketing Box Office" online reservation platform, the service has not yet listed the mass in its schedule. This will be done "soon," according to a representative of the company contacted by L'Orient-Le Jour.
The visit of Leo XVI to Beirut is part of his first trip as pope, which will also include Turkey — where he will travel just before coming to Lebanon to celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325.
In Lebanon, the Holy Father will visit the Saint Maron Monastery in Annaya to pray at the tomb of Saint Charbel, go to the Port of Beirut, and plans, in addition to the collective mass, several interfaith meetings with young people and Lebanese political leaders.
