United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said he is deeply concerned by reports of "mass atrocities and grave human rights violations" in the city of Al-Fasher, as well as by the "worsening violence in the Kordofans" region of Sudan.

In a statement released Tuesday, Guterres said it is imperative to put a stop to the delivery of arms and fighters into Sudan, and emphasized the need to guarantee rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access to civilians affected by the conflict.

The U.N. chief also called on the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to take concrete and immediate steps toward a negotiated settlement of the conflict, reiterating that hostilities must stop without delay.
