Egypt’s parliamentary elections: Designed to cement Sisi’s grip
Egypt’s parliamentary elections will not bring about any major political upheaval, but they could pave the way for extending President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s mandate. Explanations by Timothy Kaldas, expert at the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy.

Egypt's parliamentary election is sparking little enthusiasm among the population. From Nov. 10-11 and again from Nov. 24-25, Egyptians are called to elect their deputies for five years, with each province voting in turn. Expats also take part, a little earlier. Final results will not be known until the end of the year, especially if a runoff is necessary. The victory of Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his supporters is beyond doubt, and this vote will complete the composition of the House of Representatives, which will sit until the end, theoretically in 2030, of the third and last presidential term.
