An Israeli drone strike killed a Hezbollah member in the outskirts of Khiam (Marjayoun district) on Saturday, continuing Israel's violations of the cease-fire agreement signed in November 2024.
After initial reports claimed the person killed was Syrian, a drone strike targeting a construction vehicle near an uninhabited house in a neighborhood south of Khiam was confirmed to have killed a local Lebanese resident, Wissam Abou Abbas, according to our correspondent in the South, Muntasser Abdallah. Hezbollah later confirmed in a statement that he was one of its fighters.
Commenting on the same strike, the Israeli army claimed responsibility for this strike, stating it killed a member of Hezbollah’s anti-tank artillery unit. Violations also occurred on Friday night: At around 11:00 p.m., Israeli artillery targeted the outskirts of Aita al-Shaab (Bint Jbeil district).
In a separate incident, the Israeli army remained in contact throughout the night with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to recover cattle that had crossed into Lebanese territory near Aita al-Shaab, reportedly due to breaches along the Blue Line caused by repeated Israeli incursions.
The presence of the animals prompted the nearby municipality of Beit Lif to issue a warning, cautioning that the cows might be “contaminated” and pose a “bacteriological” threat or could be carriers of infectious diseases. Residents were urged not to approach the animals.
Despite the cease-fire agreement that followed 13 months of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, the Israeli army continues to occupy five areas in southern Lebanon and conducts near-daily airstrikes.
