New law opens real estate market to foreigners in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has just reached a symbolic milestone: starting in January 2026, foreigners will be authorized to acquire real estate in certain areas of Riyadh and Jeddah. This change, adopted Tuesday, July 8, is part of a series of measures aimed at opening the kingdom to international investment, while supporting ambitious goals for economic diversification.Gradual expansion of rights for foreignersUntil now, only citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states could buy property in the kingdom. The new law extends the possibility of acquiring real estate in designated areas of the capital, Riyadh, as well as the maritime metropolis of Jeddah, to other nationalities.
