Noticeable rise in generator prices in June

This increase is primarily linked to the decision made at the end of May by Nawaf Salam's government to raise fuel taxes to fund the expenses of the Lebanese Army.

The price of the kilowatt-hour (kWh) produced and sold by private or neighborhood electric generators for invoices has increased for those of June 2025, according to the latest rates published Monday by the Ministry of Energy and Water.

The kWh price has been set at LL 31,634 (a little more than $0.35), which is LL 3,845 more than in May.

The kWh price is always increased by 10 percent for operators in mountainous regions (more than 700 meters altitude) and/or rural areas, bringing it to LL 34,797 (nearly $0.39).

To calculate their invoice, each subscriber must multiply the set price by the number of kWh corresponding to their consumption, as recorded on an individual meter that the operator is supposed to have installed for them. The adopted dollar exchange rate is the market rate, which is LL 89,700.

Lebanon’s inflation accelerates again in May

The average price of diesel considered for calculating this tariff is LL 1,477,750 per 20 liters (+17.25 percent). This increase is primarily linked to the decision made at the end of May by Nawaf Salam's government to raise fuel taxes to fund the expenses of the Lebanese Army.

Fixed charges remain unchanged: for a maximum intensity of 5 amperes (A), the monthly flat rate is still LL 385,000 ($4.29), while that for an intensity of 10 A is LL 685,000 ($7.64). The ministry still imposes an increase of LL 300,000 ($3.34) for each additional 5 A increase starting from 10 A.

For installations connected to a three-phase meter (like elevators), an additional flat rate is calculated based on a reference capacity. For an elevator powered by three phases capable of supporting 15 A each, the generator owner should only charge LL 985,000 ($10.98) and not LL 2,785,000 ($31.05).

Private generators have long been a necessity, during which they have established themselves as a stopgap to the structural deficit of the state electricity provider EDL.
