‘Israeli strikes on Evin Prison undermined the dissidents' struggle,’ says human rights lawyer

Lawyer Chirinne Ardakani said that the Islamic Republic used this as an opportunity to finally transfer certain prisoners away from the spotlight, a move usually obstructed by human rights lawyers and families.

While Israel conducted intense strikes on Tehran with the official aim of destroying Iran’s nuclear program, the Israeli army targeted the notorious Evin prison on three occasions. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz also claimed on June 23 a symbolic strike aimed at "Iran's oppression machine." According to Iranian judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir, the attack killed over 71 people.
