While the cease-fire between Tel Aviv and Tehran opens the door for Washington to pursue a deal with Iran, reaching such an agreement remains highly uncertain.

In less than two weeks, Israel attacked Iran, and Iran retaliated on Israeli territory. The United States intervened alongside Israel, and Tehran "retaliated" by targeting American bases in Qatar. But there was no broader regional escalation.
