The president of the municipal council of Tripoli, Abdel Hamid Karimeh, received the regional director of the Directorate General of Antiquities (DGA) for North Lebanon, Samar Karam, in his office on Tuesday to discuss the thorny issue of the city's historical buildings. The major city in North Lebanon is indeed filled with historical treasures from various eras, which are falling into ruin due to years of neglect and indifference.

According to an official statement from the municipality reported by our correspondent, the discussion focused on "the necessity to launch a renovation and revitalization project for Tripoli's historical and archaeological sites." A survey of what is known as the old town sites has already been conducted by the DGA, in cooperation with the Order of Engineers, the Iconem organization, and the company District Solutions.

During the meeting with the DGA, the urgency of renovating the eastern part of the citadel of Tripoli, conducting a general inventory of all the city's historical and archaeological treasures and rehabilitating several historical hammams (Turkish baths) was specifically addressed. In this context, Karimeh is expected to undertake a tour of all these sites very soon, the statement continues.
