The U.S. State Department has ordered the departure of non-emergency American government personnel and their families from Lebanon due to the regional security situation, according to an official notice. "Due to ongoing regional events, American citizens are advised to exercise increased caution and closely monitor information for any significant developments," the State Department added.

This warning comes less than 24 hours after the first U.S. strikes on Iranian territory since the beginning of the conflict initiated on June 12 by Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The U.S. Embassy had encouraged American nationals on June 16 to consider the suspension or cancellation of flights by certain airlines, but had not issued a call to leave Lebanon.
