British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday urged Iran to "return to the negotiating table" following U.S. strikes on Tehran's nuclear sites.
"Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, and the United States has taken steps to mitigate this threat," Starmer said on X, emphasizing that "stability in the region is a priority." "We call on Iran to return to the negotiating table and find a diplomatic solution to end this crisis," he added. The United Kingdom "was not involved in these attacks," stated British Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds on Sky News. Washington "did not ask" for help with this operation, he added.
When asked if the British government had been informed in advance of the U.S. strike, he replied, "Yes, we knew." "We were informed, as you would expect from a key ally, of this action." "We have deployed ... British military resources in the region, and we will take all necessary measures to defend our own interests, our own people and, of course, those of our key allies if they are threatened," the minister also stated.
The U.K. announced on Monday the deployment of fighter jets and other reinforcements to the Middle East in response to the military escalation between Iran and Israel, bolstering an already significant British presence in the region.
