A woman was killed in western Syria by a fallen drone, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Sunday, estimating that the device was likely Iranian.
The woman died in a rural village in Syria's Tartus province, "after a drone fell on her house," the London-based NGO said.
Since the massive attack launched by the Israeli military against Iranian military and nuclear sites, followed by retaliatory salvos of Iranian ballistic missiles and drones against Israel, AFP correspondents and witnesses in Syria have observed dozens of missiles in the Syrian sky, some being intercepted and exploding in different regions.
The military escalation between Israel and Iran has raised fears in Syria of the conflict expanding to this war-torn country.
Since the ousting of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on military sites in Syria, stating it wants to prevent these weapons from being available to the new leadership of the country, which it describes as "jihadist."
