TRUMP ‘TRAVEL BAN’

Iran denounces ‘racist mindset’ after US travel ban

Iran on Saturday denounced what it called a “racist mentality” behind the U.S. decision to ban its citizens from entering the country — part of a broader measure imposed by Washington on nationals from 12 countries.

“This is a clear sign of the dominance of a supremacist and racist mentality among American policymakers,” said Alireza Hashemi-Raja, the official in charge of Iranian expatriates, denouncing what he called “deep hostility toward Iranians and Muslims.”

The United States will begin barring nationals of 12 countries from entering its territory starting Monday, President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday, reinstating a ban first introduced during his previous term.

In addition to Iran — a sworn enemy of the U.S. since the 1979 Islamic Revolution — the decision also applies to Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

This decision “violates the fundamental principles of international law” and deprives “hundreds of millions of people of the right to travel solely because of their nationality or religion,” Hashemi-Raja added, denouncing what he called “systematic racial discrimination.”

According to the latest Iranian Foreign Ministry statistics from 2020, an estimated 1.5 million Iranians live in the United States.
