Blockage of humanitarian aid to Gaza: Investigation opened in France for complicity in genocide

The opening of this investigation follows a complaint filed in November 2024 by the French Jewish Union for Peace (UFJP) and a French-Palestinian victim.

BEIRUT — The national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office has opened a judicial investigation for complicity in genocide, incitement to genocide, and complicity in crimes against humanity against Franco-Israelis suspected of participating in actions to block humanitarian aid to Gaza between January and May 2024, according to a source close to the case on Friday.

The opening of this investigation follows a complaint filed in November 2024 by the French Jewish Union for Peace (UFJP) and a French-Palestinian victim who denounced "the organization, participation, and call to participate in concrete actions to block humanitarian aid destined for the occupied territory of Gaza, notably by physically preventing the passage of trucks at the border posts controlled by the Israeli army."

"We are very satisfied with this decision, which is perfectly consistent with the factual and legal demonstration and the objective evidence provided by the civil parties, and we look forward to seeing if the continuation of the investigation will be equally consistent," reacted the plaintiffs' lawyers, Mes Damia Taharraoui and Marion Lafouge, to AFP. "The prevention period," which refers to the time during which the facts targeted by the investigation occurred, "dates back to January 2024, a time when no one wanted to talk about genocide," they emphasized.

Their complaint with the constitution of a civil party for complicity in genocide and incitement to the commission of genocide targets figures from "Israel is forever" and "Tzav-9," pro-Israel associations, presented as having French nationality.

According to a source close to the case, the introductory indictment of the national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office (Pnat) dates from May 21, and concerns facts that allegedly occurred at the Nitzana and Kerem Shalom border posts.
