Stone blocks from the balcony of an apartment on the fifth floor of a residential building in Tripoli, at the intersection of Qadicha and Nadim al-Jisr streets, collapsed on Saturday, leaving one person lightly injured, according to our North Lebanon correspondent Michel Hallak.
The incident sparked panic in the neighborhood, especially since the remaining part of the balcony is still at risk of falling.
Residents called on the authorities, the municipality, and civil defense to urgently intervene and take the necessary measures.
In Tripoli — the largest city in North Lebanon and also the poorest in the country — nearly 4,000 buildings are at risk of collapse, often due to age, lack of maintenance, or because they were built without proper standards. In June 2022, the collapse of a building in the Kobbeh neighborhood killed a child and injured several others.
