The Israeli army stated on Saturday that it eliminated the commander of Hezbollah’s missile unit in the Chaqif sector, Mohammad Jamoul, in a drone strike that targeted his vehicle at dawn in the village of Deir Zahrani (Nabatieh), in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed the death toll, reporting one fatality.
“During the war, the terrorist advanced plans to fire numerous rockets at Israel’s home front and Israeli army forces,” commented Avichay Adraee, the Arabic-speaking spokesperson for the Israeli army, on X. “More recently, he was involved in attempts to rebuild Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure in the region,” he continued, considering the victim’s activities “a blatant violation of the agreements concluded between Israel and Lebanon.” The spokesperson once again emphasized that “the army will continue to work to eliminate any threat against Israel.”
According to our correspondent in South Lebanon, Muntasser Abdallah, an Israeli drone targeted Mohammad Jamoul’s car with a rocket as he had left his home to attend dawn prayer.
At around 11:45 a.m., a burning paper parachute fell in the vicinity of Shebaa (Hasbaya district), coming from inside Israel, without causing a fire.
The cease-fire agreed on Nov. 27, 2024, after more than a year of war between Israel and Hezbollah, remains fragile, with the Israeli army carrying out near-daily strikes in Lebanon and maintaining a presence at five points it considers “strategic” in the south of the country. On Thursday, the head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Aroldo Lázaro, emphasized that “the situation along the Blue Line remains tense and unpredictable, with repeated violations and a risk of escalation with unforeseeable consequences.”
